On March 22, 2004, CTT–Correios de Portugal issued a set of six stamps featuring marine species from the Lisbon Oceanarium. Opened in 1998, the Oceanarium is located in the Parque das Nações, which was the exhibition grounds for Expo ’98. It is one of the largest indoor aquariums in Europe, with a collection of marine species totaling about 16,000 individuals of 450 species.
This stamp features the common seadragon or weedy seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus), a marine fish of the order Syngnathiformes, which also includes pipefishes, seahorses, and trumpetfishes among other species.
